Man gets three years in prison for not paying restaurant tab...

This morning, I read an article about a man who had enjoyed a sumptuous meal at Alamo Steakhouse in Mattoon, Illinois.  He ran up a tab of $69.27, then told his waitress that he didn't have any money to pay the bill.  The waitress got the manager.

The restaurant manager called the police, who then arrested Anthony Malabehar for burglary.  It turns out this guy has been doing this all over town...  He's been arrested over 70 times and was arrested for burglary or theft thirteen times.  A judge sentenced him to prison for three years for this latest incident.  He had just gotten out of jail the day prior to the offense for doing the same thing at another restaurant.

I have to wonder if there's something psychologically wrong with this guy.  I mean, lots of people steal things because they want to resell them for money.  What causes someone to repeatedly eat at restaurants and then refuse to pay?  I mean, you get good food and service, but then you get arrested.  What is the payoff?  Did the guy get bad service at a restaurant at some time and is taking it out on other restaurants by dining without paying?  Does he get off on being arrested and eating jailhouse cuisine?  Is he just doing this so he can go to jail and get three hots and a cot?

I don't get it.

Anyway, because he had so many prior arrests and didn't seem to be changing his ways, a judge threw the book at him.  Now he gets to go to the big house for three years, where they don't serve crab, lobster, filet mignon, or Snickers pie.  Bon appetit!
